Today's Quordle hints
Climb the ladder from the gentlest nudge to the strongest hint. No peeking at the next clue until you've given the current one a real try.
Word 1Gentle hint
Starts with O and ends with N. It describes something from an earlier period, aged or a little old-fashioned. The middle holds two vowels side by side.
Word 2Gentle hint
Starts with D and ends with E. An old-fashioned insult for someone who is not thinking clearly. Every letter here is different.
Word 3Medium hint
Starts with S and ends with H. It can mean a loose garment draped over the body, or a strip of something cut wide. Only one vowel in this one.
Word 4Medium hint
Starts with H and ends with Y. Think of terrain that rises and falls in steep little slopes. One letter appears twice in the middle, back to back.
Quick referenceStrongest hint
First letters, board by board: O, D, S, H. Last letters: N, E, H, Y. Only one of the four answers repeats a letter, and it sits right in the middle of its word.

What does today's Quordle answer mean?
Reveal the meanings (contains spoilers)
OLDEN means from an earlier time, the slightly poetic cousin of old. DUNCE is the classic insult for someone acting foolish, straight out of old classrooms. SWATH is a broad strip or band, and also a loose garment wrapped around the body. HILLY describes land full of small steep rises, and it hides a doubled L in the middle that burns guesses if you do not test it early.
How hard is today's Quordle?
Difficulty: Medium
Word 4 is today's trap: the doubled L sits in the middle where most openers never test it, so if a board stalls with H _ _ _ Y, try doubling the middle consonant before you burn more guesses. Words 1 and 2 are the friendly ones, so clear them first and let the shared letters do the heavy lifting. Word 3 looks odd with its single vowel, but once the consonants land there is really only one word it can be. Work the boards together and nine guesses is plenty.

How do you play Quordle?
- You get 9 guesses to solve four five-letter words at the same time. Type any valid five-letter word and submit it.
- Your guess lands on every unsolved board at once. Each board colors its letters green, yellow, or gray based on its own hidden word.
- Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else. Gray means it is not in that board's word.
- Track each board separately. A letter can be green on one board and gray on another, so read all four before your next guess.
- Solve all four words before your 9 guesses run out. Solved boards lock in and stop taking up attention.
What are the best Quordle strategies?
- Start with a coverage word, not a lucky guess. With four boards and nine guesses, your opener should test five fresh common letters. Information now beats a miracle solve later.
- Watch for doubles early. Two of today's boards repeat a letter. If a board shows four greens and nothing fits, the missing letter is probably already sitting in your guess twice.
- Close the easy boards first. CHOKE and BATCH give themselves away quickly. Banking them early shrinks the puzzle to two boards and clears your head.
- Do not chase one board. Spending three guesses on a stubborn board while the others sit half-solved is how nine guesses disappear. Spread your attention.
- Keep one spare guess. Quordle loves an ending where three boards are solved and the last one needs a careful, deliberate final word. Never arrive at guess nine with no plan.
What is Quordle?
Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer and launched in early 2022 during the Wordle boom. It takes the same guessing formula and stretches it across four boards at once, with nine shared guesses to solve them all.
In January 2023, Merriam-Webster acquired Quordle, bringing it under the dictionary publisher's games umbrella. The game offers a daily puzzle where everyone gets the same four words, plus practice mode for unlimited random rounds. It is free to play in the browser, and its daily streak tracking keeps regulars coming back every morning.

Frequently asked questions
How many guesses do you get in Quordle?
You get 9 guesses in the daily game, and every guess applies to all four boards at once. That is only a little more than double the guesses for four times the words, so every guess has to earn its keep. Plan your openers and do not spend guesses chasing a single board.
Who created Quordle?
Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer and launched in 2022 during the Wordle craze. He took the familiar color-feedback formula and multiplied it across four simultaneous boards. It became one of the most popular Wordle variants, sitting right between Dordle and Octordle in difficulty.
How is Quordle different from Octordle?
Quordle gives you 9 guesses for 4 boards, while Octordle gives 13 guesses for 8 boards. Quordle is the friendlier middle ground: fewer boards to track, but also fewer spare guesses. If Wordle feels too easy and Octordle feels like chaos, Quordle is the sweet spot.
What is Quordle practice mode?
Practice mode gives you unlimited random Quordle puzzles outside the daily challenge. It works exactly like the daily game, four boards and nine guesses, but the words are different every round and your streak is not affected. It is the best way to sharpen your multi-board skills.
What happens if you run out of guesses in Quordle?
If your 9 guesses run out before all four boards are solved, the game ends and reveals the words you missed. Your streak resets to zero. To avoid that, do not burn multiple guesses on a nearly solved board, and always test for doubled letters before your final attempts.
