Eight boards, thirteen guesses, and a Friday puzzle that rewards bold openers. Today's Octordle mixes straightforward boards with two sneaky ones hiding doubled letters, and three boards that all end in Y. The overlap letters are generous though, so a strong pair of starters will light up half the puzzle. Work the hints in order and save a guess or two for the endgame.

Today's Octordle hints
Climb the ladder from the gentlest nudge to the strongest hint. No peeking at the next clue until you've given the current one a real try.
First lettersGentle hint
The eight words begin with these letters, board by board from top-left to bottom-right: D, H, G, A, N, H, T, B. The letter H opens two boards, so watch which one lights up first.
Last lettersGentle hint
And they end with these letters in the same order: T, C, Y, S, Y, Y, C, O. Three boards end in Y and two end in C, which narrows things down fast once the middles start filling in.
Repeated lettersMedium hint
Two boards hide a doubled letter today: board 4 doubles its S, and board 8 doubles its O. The other six boards use five different letters each, so once those two are found, every gray letter is truly gone.
Overlap lettersMedium hint
These four letters show up on three or more boards each: T, A, O, Y. Building your openers around them pays off across the whole puzzle. The letter A alone appears on three boards.
The toughest boardStrongest hint
Board 4 is the troublemaker. It starts with A, ends with S, and hides a doubled letter in the middle. Most players guess it last, so keep one spare guess in your pocket for it.

What does today's Octordle answer mean?
Reveal the meanings (contains spoilers)
DRIFT is what snow does in the wind, or what your mind does in a boring meeting. HAVOC is chaos and destruction, the word for when everything goes wrong at once. GRIMY means covered in dirt, the state of your hands after fixing something. ABYSS is a bottomless pit, literal or emotional, and its doubled S makes it today's sneakiest catch. NASTY is unpleasant or mean, the word you mutter at bad weather. HEADY means intoxicating or exciting, like the feeling of a big win. TOPIC is the subject being discussed, the most straightforward board today. BONGO is the drum you play with your hands, and its doubled O is the second trap. The pair to watch was ABYSS and BONGO: both hide a repeated letter where you least expect it.
How hard is today's Octordle?
Difficulty: Medium-Hard
Open with two starters that cover distinct letters, leaning on the overlap crew of T, A, O, and Y. Once the doubled letters on boards 4 and 8 reveal themselves, the rest falls into place quickly. Clear the nearly-solved boards first so every remaining guess pulls maximum information out of the hard ones, and save at least one guess for board 4, the one most players finish last.

How do you play Octordle?
- You get 13 guesses to solve eight five-letter words at the same time. Type any valid five-letter word and submit it.
- Your guess lands on every unsolved board at once. Each board colors its letters green, yellow, or gray based on its own hidden word.
- Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else. Gray means it is not in that board's word.
- Use what you learn to narrow each board separately. A letter can be green on one board and gray on another, so track every board on its own.
- Solve all eight words before your 13 guesses run out. Boards you have solved lock in and stop taking up attention.
What are the best Octordle strategies?
- Burn two starters, not one. With eight boards and 13 guesses, you can afford two opening words that cover ten unique letters. Spread them across the most common consonants and vowels.
- Triage the boards. After your openers, glance across all eight and pick the board with the most confirmed letters to attack first. Quick wins shrink the problem.
- Watch for doubled letters. Two boards hide a repeated letter today, so don't rule out a double just because the single version went gray elsewhere.
- Play the overlap letters early. Letters like T, A, O, and Y show up on three or more boards today. Guesses built on them give you information everywhere at once.
- Save a spare guess for the stubborn boards. The ones with doubled letters tend to fall last. Keep at least one guess in reserve for the boards with the trickiest patterns.
What is Octordle?
Octordle was created by Kenneth Crawford and launched in late January 2022, right in the middle of the Wordle craze. It takes the same guessing formula and stretches it across eight boards at once, with 13 shared guesses to solve them all.
The game also offers Free mode for unlimited practice puzzles, Sequence mode where you solve one board at a time, and Rescue mode that starts you off with some words already guessed. It is free to play in the browser, and its daily puzzle gives everyone the same eight words each day.

Frequently asked questions
How many guesses do you get in Octordle?
You get 13 guesses in the daily game, and every guess applies to all eight boards at once. That sounds generous until you realize you are chasing eight words at the same time. Budget your guesses: two openers, a few for triage, and at least one spare for the toughest board.
Who created Octordle?
Octordle was created by Kenneth Crawford and launched in January 2022 during the Wordle boom. He built on the same color-feedback formula but multiplied the challenge across eight simultaneous boards. The game quickly found its own audience among players who found a single Wordle too easy.
How is Octordle different from Quordle?
Quordle gives you nine guesses for four boards. Octordle doubles both sides of the equation: 13 guesses for eight boards. The extra guesses help, but the mental load is much heavier. You are tracking twice as many words, so triage and letter overlap matter far more in Octordle.
What modes can you play in Octordle?
Besides the daily puzzle, Octordle offers Free mode with unlimited random puzzles, Sequence mode where you solve the eight words one board at a time, and Rescue mode that pre-guesses some words for you. The daily mode gives every player the same eight words, which is the one most people talk about.
What happens if you run out of guesses in Octordle?
If your 13 guesses run out with boards unsolved, the game reveals the words you missed. It stings, but it is also the fastest way to learn. Check which boards beat you, note the tricky words, and come back tomorrow with a better plan for your openers.
What are good starting words for Octordle?
Pick two openers that together cover ten unique letters, heavy on vowels and common consonants. Words like SLATE and CHIRP, or ADIEU and SPORT, give you broad coverage. Today, leaning on A, R, O, E, D, and P pays off because those letters appear across the most boards.
Can you play past Octordle puzzles?
The daily puzzle is one per day, but Free mode lets you play unlimited random puzzles whenever you want. Sequence and Rescue modes add variety too. If you missed a day, fan sites keep archives of past answers so you can still see what the words were.
